It's Rodeo time!

I was actually quite excited about attending a rodeo event. It's always something you watch in movies and getting the chance to see a bull ride in person was pretty interesting. The day started off early but we joined in just before lunch time. The Luddenham Show Ground looked like it had been taken out of a cowboy movie; cowboy hats/boots/shirts on sale and visitors dressed up. They even had a competition for the best dressed cowboy and cowgirl! The junior competitions were scheduled first. Some kids were quite talented, especially this one girl that even competed amongst adults.

Later on in the day the adults competed which was more entertaining. They competed in the following events; tie-down roping, team roping, steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, bareback bronc riding, bull riding and barrel racing. My favourite being the horse and bull rides. The bull riders sure are ballsy! I was at awe at the strength of the beast trying to buck the rider off, they could barely stay on for more than 10 seconds!

My Kitchen Rules (a famous Australian cooking tv show) were filming at the event which was a bonus as we got free food! Fingers crossed we may have an appearance on the show in the future. Each team had their own set up with cooking facilities and served hundreds of us. We tasted most of the teams food and we got to try kangaroo meat for the first time! It was actually quite tasty and came in a wrap. At the end of the competition we had to rank our favourites.

Kangaroo Meat Wrap

Due to the weather we had to head home a bit earlier than expected as it was cold and it had rained on us but at least we managed to watch most of the competition.
