As a nation inundated in impressive natural beauty, cultural complexities and a fascinating history, planning a trip to Vietnam can cause a few headaches if time is a factor. With 3,260km of coastline, this tall, skinny nation naturally puts some considerable distance between some of its highlights. With the likes of Phu Quoc Island, the Mekong Delta, Dalat and Mui Ne surrounding the metropolis of Ho Chi Minh City in the South and fan favourites such as Hoi-An, Da Nang and Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park along the central region, it is no surprise that many v...

Situated within the vast volcanic region of the Ijen Plateau and last in line along Java’s mountainous spine, Mount Ijen is one volcano that has a reputation surpassing most others, leaving no stone unturned when it comes to exciting most outdoor enthusiasts.     Our first abseil was down the dryer edges of a 15m waterfall, however due to the large volumes of water, we found ourselves letting go a couple of metres from the bottom and landing in the large pool of refreshing water at the base. Despite the first...

Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers, located in Westland Tai Poutini National Park, are one of the highlights of New Zealand. The rain and snow accumulation compacts and turns into clear ice, producing the glaciers we climb on.

The glacier only lies 5km from Franz Josef village. Being one of the main activities we wished to do in NZ we were devastated when our Ice Explorer trip was cancelled the following day due to bad weather. We booked a 9am Ice Explorer trip with Franz Josef Glacier Guides, the only business in town offering these trips, with the hope of a c...
